Specialist Language College Status

Picture

We are delighted to announce that our school was designated a Specialist Language College in September 2006.  We are confident that Specialist School Status enhances the opportunities for students, staff, parents and the wider community.

The TLT, Talking Languages Together Committee, is an active and successful group within school.  Our aim is to provide enhanced language opportunities and more cultural awareness for students of Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and the wider community.

An audit of TLT language skills has shown knowledge of a wide range of languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Urdu, Russian, Latin, Hungarian, Portuguese, Flemish and Mandarin Chinese.  Members of TLT have worked actively with pupils from seven local primary schools, teaching in the primaries and also hosting language and cultural awareness days for primary pupils in our own school.

TLT organised an international Christmas card competition in school and raised over £350 for a local charity.  The committee also designed the school Christmas card for 2009.

TLT worked together with the school canteen to arrange a variety of activities to celebrate Chinese New Year.  Chinese food was available along with a variety of quizzes and competitions and origami displays.

TLT members have been actively discussing plans for redecoration of the entrance and reception area at the Main School building, which will follow a more international theme.

Our aim for the future is to carry on enjoying our language learning and teaching in school and in our link primary schools.  We will continue working to embed the international ethos of the school and to increase appreciation and awareness of different cultures.
