Visits to Helmshore Textile Museum

On Thursday 1st December and Friday 2nd December, our Year 9 History students enjoyed half-day visits to Helmshore Textile Museum.  The visits gave the pupils the opportunity to study Lancashire’s industrial heritage as part of the KS3 unit on the Industrial Revolution.

Bar Mock Trial

Our sixth form students have been very successful and represented the school in the final of the North West Bar Mock Trial Competition.  This Competition gives students an exciting and innovative insight into the workings of the legal system.  With the kind help of a local barrister, Hilary Manley, students get a chance to delve into the processes involved in presenting cases in a Crown Court.

TLT

Our TLT (Talking Languages Together) group is well supported and meets each week.  Several members of the group have provided presentations and led discussions on the languages and cultures of a variety of countries, including Tibet, Ukraine, South Africa, Pakistan and China.

More recently, students have begun preparing materials in conjunction with the PE department around the Olympic theme. Next term six sub-groups of TLT will visit a number of local primary schools and teach the Olympic values in their chosen language. Tuition on the culture and language of participant nations will be provided with the aim of raising awareness among young people of the rich variety of nations and cultures involved in London 2012.
