Admissions

Thank you for your interest in joining our vibrant Sixth Form. The Sixth Form at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School offers students a fresh start and the opportunity to excel within an aspirational and inspirational learning environment.

Every year we welcome students from over 45 secondary schools.

There are over 660 students in our Sixth Form, all of whom study A Levels. We welcome students from the Ribble Valley, Longridge, Preston, Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, Burnley, Nelson, Colne, Barnoldswick and beyond. The school is served by public transport from a large number of areas and financial aid may be available via the 16-19 Bursary depending upon parental circumstances.

For Sixth Form entry, there is no catchment area and no entrance examination. To be able to join the Sixth Form you must meet the General Entry Requirement of a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 6 with at least GCSE grade 4 in English Language and Maths. In addition, some A Level subjects have their own, specific entry requirements. These are shown in the Subject Information Sheets available at our Open Evening and on our Curriculum page.

Please read our Sixth Form Guide and Entry Requirements for further details.

Step 3: Take part in an Options Meeting

After you submit your application form, you will be invited to take part in an Options Meeting when you will have a one-to-one discussion with a member of staff about your A Level subject choices. This is an informal discussion which is intended to help you make the right choices and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

Before your Options Meeting, we recommend that you read briefly through the Entry Requirements and the Subject Information Sheets for subjects that you’re considering studying at A Level. You might find it useful to have copies of them on hand during your meeting. They are available on our Curriculum web page here.

Step 4: Receive an Offer and Find Out More

After your Options Meeting, you will be offered a place which will usually be conditional on your exam results.

After you have received a conditional offer of a place, we will invite you to take part in one of our Student Preview Events at the end of June. The Student Preview Events are a great opportunity to meet other new students and find out more about what to expect in the Sixth Form. Useful information is also available on our New Year 12 webpage.

Step 5: Confirm Your Place

On GCSE Results Day (21st August 2025) we will confirm your place and your subject choices. Once again you will talk with experienced teaching staff who will confirm your enrolment and discuss any subject changes with you.
