National Cross-Country Championships

Jamie Teare in Year 10 reports on his participation in the recent championships:

The nationals are a prestigious event with athletes travelling from all over the country to compete. This year, they were held in London at Hampstead Heath where the course is known as the ‘Parliament Hill’ course.

I travelled down the day before and stayed overnight in preparation along with 3 other athletes from Blackburn Harriers. As well as running for an individual time, there were team places where the first 4 athletes to finish counted for an overall team place.  The course was quite hilly with the big Parliament Hill being quite close to the start and it was important to get a good position from the start.

On the day, there were over 500 people in the U15’s race and I came 184th which I was pleased with.  Blackburn Harriers were the 10th team (out of 41 teams) and the first northern team to finish. It was a great experience and it was good to spend it with others from the club.
