Deadline Friday 15th September
In June this year we invited our students to participate in the Read for Refugees 2023. This is a nationwide sponsored read organised by librarians across the UK supported by the School Library Association (SLA). The aim was to encourage reading during the summer holidays and, as people world-wide flee their homes due to conflict, natural disasters, or fear of persecution, do something positive in the face of tragedy.
Before the end of term, we encouraged students to participate in a sponsored read to raise money for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UK for UNHCR), which provides emergency assistance for refugees and asylum seekers fleeing conflicts worldwide.
We hope that your young people enjoyed reading throughout July and August. Donations are now being accepted until Friday 15th September 2023. Students and sponsors can donate the money raised online via the school’s Just Giving page. One-off donations for adults or students who wish to donate to the cause, but did not take part in the sponsored read, are also welcome and appreciated.
