Read for Refugees

In June this year, both the Main School and the Sixth Form have launched a reading sponsorship for the Read for Refugees Campaign to raise money for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UK for UNHCR). This is a nationwide sponsored read organised by librarians across the UK, supported by the School Library Association (SLA). The aim is to do something positive in the face of tragedy as people world-wide flee their homes due to conflict, natural disasters, or fear of persecution. For more information, including details of competitions, special messages from authors and suggested reading around the theme of migration, please visit the Read for Refugees website.

Students from Years 7-13 are encouraged to be sponsored to read books over the summer holidays and then donate to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School’s JustGiving page. Students can borrow books from their school libraries, local libraries or personal devices. They can read their own books or even listen to audiobooks. For younger readers, a Reading and Pledges Chart is available to download to keep track of book titles and sponsors. The campaign will end in mid-September and an announcement will be made on the total of funds raised.
