Teams battle it out at the annual Clitheronians’ Association quiz

On Friday 4th March 2016, the Main School site hosted the annual Clitheronians’ Association quiz, organised by CRGS alumnus and former CRGS Sports Captain and Head Boy, Sir John Lewis.

The event was very well attended with 16 teams taking part including two staff teams and three Sixth Form student teams.   The standard of competition is always very high and for the second year running a school team won.  It was the 3rd tie-breaker in as many years as the scores were tied at the end of 4 rigorous rounds.  This time ‘Always the Bridesmaid’ were the winners.  It was a case of 3rd time lucky, as they had lost on two previous occasions on tie-breakers!  They will no doubt make good use of their gift vouchers on quiz books in preparation for next year.

The other staff team (last year’s winners) and one of the student teams, Dumbledore’s Army, fought hard to draw in the end, with the other two student teams, The Quizzly Bears and Les Quizerables, not far behind.   As the highest placed student team, Dumbledore’s Army also enjoyed a prize of some gift vouchers and said that they will be back next year.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening, made all the more enjoyable by the varied range of ages involved and the friendly atmosphere.  Thank you to all involved – Clitheronians, parents, friends of CRGS and students and staff including site staff – for making the event a success and to Sir John Lewis and his wife Penny for preparing and testing the questions in advance of the event itself.  We look forward to the next quiz which will no doubt be another hotly contested affair.
