Outstanding Sports Hall officially opened by former student and Olympic medallist Jon Schofield – November 2014

On 7th November present and past students, parents, staff and guests attended the opening of the £2m Sports Hall project.  The new four-court Sports Hall not only provides outstanding sporting facilities but is multi-functional and provides seating for 600 people for assemblies and events, provision for taking examinations and much more.  This facility will enable our students to achieve even higher standards in local and national competitions as well as encouraging sport and healthier lifestyles.

At the official opening Jon, bronze medallist in the K2 200m Kayak Team at the 2012 Olympics, praised the school for providing the students with “world class facilities”.  Guests at the event were delighted by the performance of the Year 8 Gymnastics Club, who performed a fantastic routine to the very fitting Pharrell Williams song ‘Happy’.  Students and staff are certainly happy, delighted and overjoyed by the new amazing facilities.

Clitheroe Royal Grammar School desperately needed this new modern indoor sports facility.  We now have a double height Sports Hall, entrance foyer and reception, new changing rooms, retractable seating and equipment storage rooms.

Visit From Lord Greaves

In November we were fortunate enough to welcome a Peer of the Realm to our school. Students in Years 8 and 10, along with Year 13 Politics students and members of the Sixth Form Politics Society, were invited to hear life peer, Tony Greaves, speak about both his experiences in the House of Lords and his involvement in the Liberal Democrat Party.
