Arkwright Scholarships
Matthew Akerman is the proud recipient of and Arkwright Scholarship. Here he describes the process of application and his achievement:
“Through school I received the opportunity to apply for an Arkwright scholarship, which is given to carefully selected candidates aiming to pursue a career in design and technology. This consisted of a written application form followed by a written exam which over 700 people sat, and then 350 students made it through to interview. I travelled to Lancaster to attend my interview and presented my GCSE Design and Technology project to a panel of judges; after this followed a long wait for the results which eventually came out to be positive. I have been sponsored by the Industrial Careers Foundation, and will receive £500 over two years, while the school will receive £450. A wealth of advice and prestige comes with the scholarship, and to receive the award I travelled to London with my family to meet my sponsor and attend the presentation of awards, and the whole process was thoroughly enjoyable and very beneficial.”
