The CRGS Design and Technology Department invited Key Stage 2 students from local schools to enter a competition during lockdown which focused on the ‘design’ and ‘evaluate’ elements of the KS2 DT National Curriculum.
Students were asked to investigate and explore the ‘Gumdrop Bin’, a gum recycling bin, via the Design Museum (London) website. The concept of the gumdrop bin is that it is designed to be fastened to lamp posts to prevent bubble gum being thrown onto the floor. The bin itself is manufactured out of waste gum.
Students were then asked to think about a piece of litter that people throw onto the street that bothers them. The competition challenge was to design a concept to capture the litter.
We were thrilled with the responses and the creativity of the students’ work showcased below.

We found it impossible to choose between two designs and therefore awarded joint first place to:
